New Moon Knight Idea Is the Best Case Yet for Season 2

Although Moon Knight had its detractors, the story of mercenary Marc Spector and his other personalities captured enough of an audience that many Marvel fans are calling for second season. Thus far, no second season has been announced, and recent comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger about focusing on its “strongest franchises” only throw the possibility into further doubt.

But there is one guy who hasn’t lost faith: Oscar Isaac. An Instagram post from Geek House Show features Isaac talking at a during Middle East Film and Comic Con. When asked about the future of Moon Knight in the MCU, Isaac described his hopes for the character, revealing not only that he’s game to play the character again but also dropping a surprising season 2 idea in the process. “I thought there was an interesting opportunity with Midnight Sons,” he answers, referring to a long-running Marvel Comics team that usually fights supernatural threats.

The Midnight Sons first appeared in Rise of the Midnight Sons crossover from the 1990s, which brought together many of Marvel’s edgier characters at the time, including Blade. While the crossover launched a few comics, the Midnight Sons stayed largely in the background until recently, first in the Damnation crossover from 2017 and then in a new Midnight Sons miniseries in 2022.

More recently, they were the stars of Spider-Man.

Interestingly, Moon Knight isn’t usually associated with the Midnight Sons in any medium, but that doesn’t slow down Isaac. “There’s such interesting characters in there, and now that we’ve set the groundwork with learning who Marc, Steven, Jake are, it could be an interesting opportunity to see him as part of a team and what that dynamic would be,” he said. “So I think that would be exciting, I think for me, I definitely hope there’s some room to explore that possibility.”

Many would agree that Moon Knight would make for an interesting addition to the Midnight Sons, but a lot has to happen before such a story could occur in the MCU. While many characters from the Midnight Suns video game do exist in the MCU, most of the mainline team do not. Morbius, of course, is a Sony character, and while Blade is slated to the universe, his first MCU movie has long struggled to actually get off the ground. Only Ghost Rider is readily available, but it was the Robbie Reyes version who appeared in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, not the Danny Ketch or Johnny Blaze versions, who are Midnight Sons .

That said, Doctor Strange is a key figure behind the Midnight Sons, and he’s only grown in prominence in the MCU. If Strange needed to assemble mystical heroes to fight against a supernatural threat, he could do a lot worse than Moon Knight, who needs a new mission after season one of the show.
