The Batman: Zoe Kravitz Cast as Selina Kyle
The Batman movie has found its Catwoman in Big Little Lies star Zoe Kravitz.
Zoe Kravitz is no stranger to a franchise—she’s appeared in series like Robert Pattinson in the eponymous role.
In addition to Pattinson, Kravitz s Jeffrey Wright, who has been cast as Commissioner Gordon, and Jonah Hill, who is in talks to play the film’s villain. The movie is being directed by Matt Reeves (War For the Planet of the Apes), and is currently slated for a June 25, 2021 release date.
The Batman film is set to tell the early years of Batman’s rise to vigilante fame, though it will apparently not be an origin story.
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale,” Reeves told THR earlier this year. “It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional.”
It’s unclear, at this point, how Selina Kyle might fit into that narrative, though Kravitz’s casting does fit in with the younger ensemble, a shift from a movie that originally starred Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight. Though she was originally introduced as a supervillain in the comics, more recently, Selina Kyle has often been cast as Batman’s love interest, though their relationship is usually depicted as a love-hate one, with Catwoman having her own ideas about how to save (or not save) Gotham.
